What’s in a name?

The name Paddy Wagon first emerged for me during the Bosnian War of 1992-5 when I along with many others throughout Europe, sickened by the daily news bulletins depicting starving refugees, decided to fill trucks with food and drive them to the Bosnian refugee camps ourselves. I had never driven one before - and it was a steep learning curve - but we all quickly became adept at getting them over mountain tracks in the snow and through ‘sniper alleys’ at night with no lights on, delivering aid to refugees then turning back and doing it all over again. The people of Manchester kept filling the trucks, so we kept on driving them and we did this until the war ended. In that time the name Paddy Wagon kind of stuck, becoming my official name. In addition, I also became a fairly good truck driver. Thankfully, we don’t need to use those skills in the removals business, but the ethos remains, and we believe in taking our task seriously and seeing it through to the end no matter what is thrown at us.
